Ornamenta, Coverings 2019 - Orlando
Designed by D-Segno Studio, Ornamenta Cafè recreates the atmosphere of a metropolitan cafe recalling the fifties and sixties. The floor is the new Chiaroscuro collection presented in world premiere, a cement that enhances the natural material used here in the light color of the range. The furnishings, the brass finishes that cover the arches and the use of wall-mounted ceramics help to reinforce the iconography. “The idea was to create an imperfect surface imbued with character and emotion and an exceptional depth of colour, resulting from the tonal balance of light and dark shades celebrating the rawness of natural substance. The surface creates a dynamic play, appearing from a distance as a smooth mélange, across a spectrum of earthy hues that are surprisingly vibrant, from major brown to luminous sand and off-white. Plain tiles are accompanied by an interactive digital decorative module in three different colour variants that allow architects and and designers to visualize different colourways and layouts.”
Ornamenta, Cersaie 2019 - Bologna
The stand is a large container made of wood fiber panels (MDF) colored over the entire surface with water-based, non-toxic and pigments with a low concentration of formaldehyde (classification E1) guaranteeing on the one hand a perfect and safe coexistence with the environment, on the other offering new possibilities in the field of decoration and interior design, allowing a wide variety of aesthetic effects and innovative finishes. Ornamenta will present its latest research on materials during the week of Cersaie this year, in an exhibition that shows the fruits of research experimental on materials, focusing on the combination of originality and industrial techniques and a renewed acceptance of color as a distinctive trait inside a container cleared from the use of a black in total look in which the contextual play of materials culminates in a display unique and voluminous capable of arousing inspiration from multiple angles.

Flexibility. The booth is structured in an open area in which design sets create potential living paradigms designed to mirror contemporary lifestyles of new generations. “In an increasingly, fluid society, I think one of the greatest challenges for designers is to make space more flexible, responding to the growing needs of nomadism and co-sharing of new young consumers, the so-called millennials. Spaces must acquire characteristics of modularity, of scalability, and the products, in these new dynamics of living, must also fulfill these new functions. “

Ornamenta, Cersaie 2017 - Bologna
Ornament and Crime was an essay and a lecture by modernist architect Adolf Loos, that criticizes ornament in art, first given on 21 January 1908 in Vienna. The essay equated the use of ornamentation in late nineteenth and early twentieth century architecture and design with the destruction of culture and society. Loos felt strongly that ornament had no meaning or place within contemporary culture, even going so far as to argue that ornament actually hindered society’s progress. Specifically, Loos viewed superfluous ornament as an epidemic, one that contributed to the obsolescence of objects. He advocated for simplicity, because simple objects never go out of style and therefore would be treasured for all time. Even today, Loos’s questioning of the role of ornamentation still resonates within the architecture and the decorative arts communities. Academics, critics, students, artists, and curators regularly discuss and debate the topic, asking themselves such questions as: What purpose does ornament serve the design of an object? Is it simply a function of style? Does ornament contribute anything meaningful to objects today?
